Greening My Housecleaning: Part 2

Housecleaning... Naturally

Housecleaning… Naturally

Learning to use essential oils and everyday household food-grade items, is actually getting me EXCITED about house-cleaning!
Ok, we’ll maybe that’s a bit of a stretch. But really, there is an almost tangible difference you feel around your house when you begin to substitute essential oils for some of the chemicals we typically use in our cleaning regimen.
So last week, I filled a 6-oz sprayer bottle with distiller water, and added a total of about 50 drops of this combination of essential oils, all of which have antibacterial and anti-microbial properties:
  •  Lemon
  •  Litsea Cubeba (also called “May Chang”)
  •  Tea Tree
  •  Lavender
All of these EOs have antibacterial and anti-microbial properties.
I used this spray solution to wipe down my countertops and sink in my kitchen. I also sprayed it on the floor before wiping the floor clean after sweeping.
For stubborn stains or marks on the counter I sprinkled a little baking soda, spritzed with my essential oil spray solution, and used a damp paper towel to rub, then used a fresh damp paper towel – along with more spritzes – to wipe it clean.
My kitchen and floors were sparkling clean, SMELLED fresh, and, amazingly, there was a clean fresh feeling in the air… Different from when I use the chemical stuff. Even the hubby remarked on the scent and atmosphere in the house when he walked in.
Wanna try? Start with 2 of the best essential oils for cleaning: Lemon and Tea Tree. Use about 8-10 drops TOTAL essential oil per ounce of water, or water and vinegar. Let me know what you think!
